"WE TOOK THE GAME SERIOUSLY BUT IT WASN'T OUR BEST PERFORMANCE"

After the 4-3 defeat of SV Straelen in the first round of the DFB Cup, here's the best of the reaction from the mixed zone and the post-match press conference.

Head coach Timo Schultz: "We're relieved to have gone through to the next round in the end. I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate Sunday Oliseh for setting up his team so well. They caused us problems, especially in the first half. We made too many mistakes and didn't play with the intensity required to put the result beyond doubt early on. That said, I have to pay my team a compliment for forcing the 4-3 after going a man down."

Dennis Smarsch: "They were tough opponents who had nothing to lose. We took the game seriously but it wasn't our best performance. I'm happy to admit their third goal was a mistake on my part, so I'm grateful to Jakov and Eric for scoring late on. In the end, what counts is that we progressed to the next round."

Jakov Medić: "It was a really tough game for us but we showed we're the better team in the end. It wasn't our best day. We have to focus on the league again now and see what we can do better. I was a bit lucky with the goal but it was crucial."

David Otto: "We knew how they wanted to hurt us but had no control when we lost possession - and they were very effective as well. I wasn't surprised when the ball came in for my goal. These are the things we practise in training. The ball was teed up perfectly and it wasn't hard to put it in."

Sunday Oliseh (SV Straelen head coach): "We worked for three weeks in preparation for this game and wanted to take the crowd with us. My team fought hard and did their best. Compliments to FC St. Pauli, who are a very good team."
