REGINIUSSEN: "IT'S DOWN TO ME TO PLAY AS WELL AS I CAN"

In Tore Reginiussen, the Boys in Brown have got themselves an experienced central defender for the rest of the season. The 34-year-old Norwegian took time out at the start of the week to talk to the media about his move to the Millerntor and his ambitions for the club.

Tore Reginiussen on…

...FC St. Pauli and the city of Hamburg: "It's a fantastic club. All the people I've met so far have been really friendly, so I feel very much at home. I already know the city, I've been several times. It's a beautiful place and I'm happy to be here."

...his move to Millerntor: "First of all, I spoke to my agent Bjarne Goldbæk, who lived in Hamburg for a few years and knows the club. When my contract with Rosenborg expired, he called me and asked me what I thought about St. Pauli. We talked to the club and everything went from there. The talks were good, it was a good fit. I already knew the club, it's very special and so are the fans. I also spoke to Mats Møller Dæhli, Vegar Eggen Hedenstad and Leo Østigård, who've all played here. They told me to go for it and said I would definitely enjoy my time here. Leo also said he hoped I would get to experience the atmosphere inside the ground because it's really something special."

...his plans and goals: "I've been in training for a week and I'm working hard to get match-fit. After the season ended on December 20, I continued training while I was on holiday, so now it's about getting fit enough to play as soon as possible. I want to do my bit to make sure we play well and stay up. I've been playing the game a long time and I've had my share of ups and downs. I've just spent nine years with the biggest club in Norway, so I'm used to pressure. An important role of experienced players is to help young players and support the team as much as possible."

...the current Hamburg weather: "It's like Norway and so I felt at home right away. When we ran after the game, it was so icy and slippery, you could have put skates on (he laughs). I'm used to conditions like that. I come from a place way up in the north of Norway, so the snow and the cold don't scare me."

The weather is no problem for Tore Reginiussen, who trains in shorts even when the temperature is below freezing.

...the tumultuous 4-3 win at Heidenheim: "It was a great game for the viewers, even if you watched it as a neutral. For me personally, it was a bit too exciting. I was hoping we could control the game a bit more. But it was important for us mentally to win another game late on and get the three points."

...the possibility of him playing against Sandhausen: "I'm close to 100 per cent and I think I'm ready. Mentally I am. I saw the game at Heidenheim and I want to be out there myself, playing football and helping the team."

...the tough competition in central defence: "I came here to do my best, of course. I think I definitely have a chance of playing. And then it's down to me to play as well as I can. The competition is fierce, everyone wants to play. But I'll do my best. I came here with the ambition of helping the club as much as I can and that's what I'm going to do."
