Vasilj pens new deal

FC St. Pauli continue to work on their squad for the coming period by handing Nikola Vasilj a contract extension that keeps him at the Millerntor beyond the end of the 2023/24 season. The 28-year-old goalkeeper joined the Boys in Brown from Ukraine outfit Zorya Luhansk in July 2021.

Vasilj has made 80 competitive appearances for the club to date and kept 25 clean sheets. He has also made eight competitive appearances for Bosnia-Herzegovina plus four friendly appearances (four clean sheets).

Reaction to the deal:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann:"Niko has demonstrated his worth for the team from day one and is a key factor in our now solid rearguard. He underlined his importance for us with a strong performance against Kaiserslautern on the league resumption, which is why we're glad Niko sees his future with us."

Head coach Fabian Hürzeler: "Our style of play is a very challenging one for our goalkeepers. Niko has taken it on in outstanding fashion and improved in every aspect of the modern goalkeeping game in his time with us. Working with him is great fun and I think there's still more to come from him."

Nikola Vasilj: "I felt my journey with FC St. Pauli wasn't over yet. We're making superb progress and I want to continue playing a part in steering the team in the right direction. I'd like to thank the club officials, coaching team and fans for the incredible support and trust they've placed in me over the last 30 months. Being a part of this club is a great feeling. I feel I'm in the right place, both professionally and personally, together with my wife."
