FC St. Pauli have elected to continue their association with right-back Jannes Wieckhoff and extended his contract, which was due to expire on 30 June 2022. The 21-year-old rose through the youth ranks after joining the club in 2012.
Wieckhoff has been a member of the first-team squad since the 2020/21 season. He has made a total of eleven competitive appearances at senior level to date, scoring one goal.
Reaction to the deal
Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Jannes has shown he can definitely hold his own in the second division when he has played. He's making excellent progress and we're confident he can build on his performances for us next season.
Head coach Timo Schultz: "Jannes has had a tough time, so I'm delighted for him to be on the training ground with us again. He missed almost a full season and we'll definitely have to be patient with him. But we're convinced he'll be challenging again soon and helping the team with his quality, especially going forward."
Jannes Wieckhoff: "I'm happy to continue my journey at FC St. Pauli and aim to repay the trust of the officials with good performances. It's great fun being able to train with my teammates again. I'm totally focused on pre-season now so I can get back playing as soon as possible."
