ZANDER ARRIVES ON LOAN FROM BREMEN

On the day pre-season preparations kick off St. Pauli are able to announce that Luca-Milan Zander has joined the club from Werder Bremen. The 21-year-old, who has a three-year contract with the Bundesliga outfit, joins the Boys in Brown on a two-year loan deal that ties him to the club until 30 June 2019. Under the terms of the agreement Bremen have no option to recall the player during this time.

"We're delighted that Luca is joining us," said director of sport Andreas Rettig. "Besides his ability as a footballer we were hugely impressed by the determination he showed to make the transfer possible.

Head coach Olaf Janssen also expressed his pleasure over the move. "Luca is a very well-trained right-back. He has good pace and with his desire to get forward he's a constant source of pressure down his side."

For Zander, the talks with Rettig and Janssen were the deal clincher: "I had other options in the second division but my impressions of my visit here and the talks we had convinced me that moving to St. Pauli was the right step. I see the best chances to develop as a player here, and that's why I made it clear that St. Pauli were the club I wanted to join. In Bremen we know that St. Pauli have great fans and there's a great atmosphere in the ground. The overall package is right for me."

Zander learned his trade in the youth section at Werder Bremen. The former Germany Under-20 player made two Bundesliga appearances for Werder and featured 31 times for their second string in the third division last season. He will not commence training until tomorrow (20 June), having just undergone dental surgery.
