Midfielder Ersin Zehir has left the Boys in Brown to join VfB Lübeck on a one-year loan deal. The move takes the 22-year-old back to the club of his youth.
Zehir switched to the St. Pauli academy from VfB Lübeck in the summer of 2014 and progressed through the club’s youth ranks from Under-17 level, having previously spent six years as a junior for VfB. He broke into the senior squad in 2018 and has since made a total of 21 second-division appearances for the Boys in Brown (2 assists).
Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: “There is big competition for places in the centre of midfield and we have plenty of options in the squad. It would have been difficult for Ersin to get the playing time he needs to develop this season. A season at VfB Lübeck in the third division offers him the opportunity to take the next step at senior level.”
Ersin Zehir: “I grew up in Lübeck and gained a large part of my football education at VfB, so I’m glad to have this chance to spend a season in my home town. I’ll do my utmost to get as much match practice at possible on a professional level and help VfB as best I can.”
